A TA in my 200 person bio lecture said my notes were 'a transcript, not a study guide,' and she was right
I used to write down every single word from lectures, so my notes for the first exam were 47 pages long and I still got a C. After the exam she pulled me aside in the hallway of the science building and said I was basically transcribing instead of learning. Now I write questions in the margins instead of sentences, and my notes fit on 6 pages. Has anyone else had a TA completely change how they take notes?
47 pages for one exam is wild but also, did the TA really need to pull you aside in the hallway? That feels a little dramatic for note taking advice. Plenty of people write everything down, barely study it, and still pass, so I'm not sure transcribing was your only problem. Six pages of questions sounds smart, but a C to an A is a big jump to pin on just changing how you write stuff down.
