Met a guy at the coffee shop who thought you needed a math degree to start coding

I was working on a simple Python script at my local spot last week when the guy next to me asked what I was doing. He said, 'I always wanted to learn that, but I was never good at math in school.' I told him I barely passed algebra and showed him my code, which was just moving some text around. His face totally changed, like a light went on. He spent the next 20 minutes asking me about free online courses. It's crazy how many people think coding is only for math geniuses. Has anyone else had a chat like that that made you realize what stops people from even trying?

People make up all kinds of reasons why they can't do something. It's usually just a story they tell themselves.

Three years ago I told myself I couldn't learn to code because I was "too old" at 42. Then my buddy just sat me down with a free YouTube course and by month two I had a basic landing page for my hobby. It really is mostly just the stories we tell ourselves, and they're hard to break out of sometimes. But once you see someone else do it (especially someone you know) the whole thing starts to fall apart.

Totally agree with @kim.sandra, my neighbor thought the same until I showed her my basic website.
