Vent: the engineer who watched me scrap 6 parts before saying anything

Ngl, I still think about this guy. Last month at a shop in Toledo, I was running a batch of 40 aluminum brackets and kept getting a .015" taper on the bore. I re-checked the fixture, flipped the insert, even re-zeroed the probe three times. The engineer just stood there behind me crossing his arms for like twenty minutes. Finally he says, "you know the coolant line is kinked right?" and walks off. I looked down and yeah, the hose had a hard bend at the pump, so the back of the bore was dry and heating up. Six parts gone, each one about $12 in material plus my time, all because nobody said anything sooner. Has anyone else had a guy just watch you struggle instead of pointing out the obvious?

Man that's brutal. Guy probably thought he was being helpful by letting you figure it out yourself, but all he did was cost you time and money. I had a similar thing happen with a QC guy who watched me fight a warped part for an hour before he finally mentioned the stock was bowed from the supplier. Like thanks bro, real helpful seeing me struggle with something you spotted in two seconds. Some folks just dont get that we're all on the same clock and every scrap part is coming out of someones pocket. Six parts at twelve bucks each is nothing to sneeze at either, especially when youre just trying to get the job done. That engineer owes you a coffee at least, if not an apology for acting like a human roadblock.
