Serious question, did dropping $1,800 on a probe pay off for anyone here?
I run a small job shop in Wichita and last spring I put $1,800 down on a used Renishaw probe setup for my Haas VF2. Before that I was touching off every tool by hand and eating 20 minutes a setup, plus I scrapped a full run of 40 aluminum brackets because one tool was off by three thou. First week with the probe I had a part running inside 15 minutes of clamping the stock. Now I'm wondering if I should have skipped the probe and put that cash toward a pre-setter out at the bench instead. What did you all buy that actually moved the needle in your shop, and what turned out to be a waste?
