Picked a 3/8 roughing end mill over the 1/2 for a deep pocket job and I'm paying for it
Boss gave me the choice for a batch of 6061 brackets last Tuesday, 40 parts, pocket depth 1.75 inches. I went with the 3/8 because the 1/2 would've needed more clearance on the fixture and I didn't want to move the vise. Big mistake. The 3/8 is chattering in the corners and I'm running it at 60 percent speed just to keep it quiet. Four parts in and I already killed one. Anyone running a longer 3/8 in deep pockets have a spindle speed and stepover they swear by, or should I just own up and re-fixture for the half inch?
