Old timer at the shop said I was wasting time deburring every edge - now I'm wondering who was right

I ran into the same thing with a guy who had been machining since the 70s. He said I was making extra work for myself. Then I handed him a part with a sharp burr on a threaded hole and asked him to run it through the assembly line. Took about two minutes for it to hang up on a seal and tear it. He didn't say much after that. I deburr everything now, especially if it's a part that goes into something the customer will touch. Saves a lot of headache later.

Ugh, the old school guys always say that! I had a guy tell me the same thing when I first started out and I was like, no way. I spend so much time on edges because it makes everything fit together so much nicer in the end. Sharp edges are just asking for a cut or a snag, especially on something you have to handle a lot. Plus a good deburr makes the part look 10 times better, like you actually cared about it.
