Got my first perfect finish on a titanium part after a seminar in Detroit last fall

The instructor showed us a specific feed rate and coolant mix that finally made it click. Anyone else have a lightbulb moment from a class or show?

Yeah, that mix is key. We run a 10% soluble oil with a touch of extra lubricity additive for our Ti work. Makes the finish pop and keeps the tool happy.

Disagree about seminars being the only way to learn. I've found most of my breakthroughs come from messing things up on the shop floor. Sometimes you just need to get your hands dirty to really understand it.

Totally get that. Seminars can feel like watching someone else cook without ever touching the pan. The real learning sticks when you're the one who has to fix the mistake you just made. It's like the difference between reading a map and actually getting lost in the woods. That panic and frustration force your brain to solve the problem in a way a lecture never could. You build a kind of gut feeling for the work that no powerpoint can give you.
