Took the bus instead of driving to a job interview, got there 40 minutes early and full of diesel fumes

My car battery died Tuesday morning and I had a interview across town in Portland. I panicked and grabbed the #12 bus because I didn't want to call and cancel. The bus took 55 minutes instead of the 20 it would've taken to drive, and I sat behind the exhaust pipe the whole way so my blazer smelled like a truck stop. Got there super early, which was fine, but the hiring manager asked if I'd been to a bonfire. I got the job anyway but now I'm wondering if I should just bike next time or if that's too risky for sweat stains. Has anyone else had a climate-friendly choice backfire in a weird way like this?

Figured out the hard way that "eco friendly" and "professional smell" don't mix. Biked to a wedding once thinking I'd be a hero, showed up with helmet hair and a sweat ring on my shirt collar so bad it looked like a tide mark. The groom's grandma kept asking if I needed a towel and I just wanted to sink into the floor. Ended up locking my bike outside the venue and taking a cab home because I couldn't face the ride back. Honestly, diesel fumes might be the lesser evil if you know a dry cleaner on the way.
