Rental heat pump vs window unit in Phoenix, picked wrong at first

Landlord offered a heat pump install for $0 but my electric would jump about $30 a month, so I went with a $200 window unit instead. After 4 months of 110 degree days, my bill hit $215 and the compressor died, has anyone else dealt with landlord incentives that looked good on paper but flopped?

$215 after four months in Phoenix sounds like a win honestly. My buddy pays that every single month in July with a central unit that works fine. The window unit dying after 4 months sucks but $200 is the cost of one repair call on a heat pump. Landlords dont offer free stuff out of kindness, so I'd be asking what the catch is with that $30 electric bump. Maybe the math works out over a year, maybe not, but a dead compressor in 4 months is just bad luck on a cheap unit.
