Planning a cross-country trip and worried about my carbon footprint
I'm organizing a family road trip from coast to coast this summer. In my experience, long drives use a lot of gas, which isn't great for the climate. I've heard about electric vehicles and carbon offsets, but I'm not sure where to start. Can anyone share how they've made similar trips more eco-friendly? Your mileage may vary, but I'd appreciate any tips.

Can I confess something? My last attempt at being eco-friendly on a trip involved buying carbon offsets that promised to plant trees, and I'm pretty sure my cat has killed more plants than that fund ever grew. Have you looked into renting a hybrid for the long haul? We did that once and the gas savings were real, even if my driving still stressed out the passengers.

My cousin rented a Prius for a road trip last summer. She saved a ton on gas, even with the rental fee. Those carbon offset things always seem a bit shady to me.
