Our town's solar push backfired in the worst way possible

We installed 340 rooftop panels across our library and rec center in Springfield back in 2019, touted to cut our municipal grid demand by 30%. Instead, I watched our net metering credits shrink while the utility added a $45 monthly 'infrastructure fee' that ate all the savings. The before and after is stark: our 2020 electric bill was $11,000 a year, now it's pushing $13,500 even with the panels humming. Why is nobody talking about how the real climate win is pushing utilities to fix their rate structures first, not just slapping glass on roofs?
