My compost bin went from stinky mess to gold after I stopped adding citrus

I used to toss orange peels and lemon rinds in every week and my pile turned into a fruit fly hotel that smelled like a bar floor on a Sunday morning. Last June I read that the acid messes with the worms and bacteria, so I cut it out completely and started chopping scraps smaller. Anyone else find that one simple change made their whole setup way less gross?
