Question about the day I realized I was sweeping creosote the wrong way for 6 months
Had a job in Salem last month where the homeowner asked why I was scrubbing top down, said his last sweep always worked bottom up first. Turns out I'd been pushing all the gunk down into the smoke shelf instead of pulling it out, which is why I kept getting callbacks. Anybody else have a client teach them something basic like that?
That line about pushing gunk into the smoke shelf hits home. I did the same thing on a wood stove job in Albany, kept wondering why the draft got worse after every sweep. Old timer told me to work from the top down but pull everything toward me, not away. Cut my callbacks in half after that.
