Had a squirrel nest ignite in a flue on a job in Portland last fall.
The smoke just poured out the top, and I had to soak the whole thing with my extinguisher before I could even start the clean-out. Anyone else had to deal with a live animal situation that turned dangerous?

Seriously? Waiting for animal control every time something gets feisty would put me out of business. A possum is just a big rat with a bad attitude. A heavy jacket and some welding gloves, you just scoop it into a bucket and carry it out. Letting it stall the job costs more than the five minutes of hassle.

Had a possum family set up shop in a crawl space once, and the mom got real defensive when I shined my light in. I backed off and called animal control, because those things can bite hard (and they carry all sorts of junk). Let the pros with the thick gloves and cage come get them. Sometimes the safest move is just to wait for backup, you know?
