Watched a guy in Tulsa lay a whole room with a dull blade because his kid hid his good one, so now I carry 4 spares
Last Tuesday I was on a job in Tulsa, small bedroom, maybe 12 by 14. The other installer on site, nice guy, kept fighting the carpet at every cut. Seams looked rough, edges frayed. I asked what was up and he pulled out his blade. It was the same one he started with that morning. His 6 year old had hidden his box of fresh blades somewhere in the truck and he did not want to dig around.
I have been there. Not the kid part, but the one blade all day part. I handed him one of mine and the rest of the room went fast. Took him maybe 20 minutes to finish after that.
Since then I keep 4 spare blades in my pouch, not just one. Costs me almost nothing and I am not stuck hunting around when a cut starts dragging.
Any of you keep a set number of spares on you or just grab a new one when it feels dull?
