Vent: Spent 2 hours trying to figure out why my seams kept splitting
I was working on a big living room job last Tuesday and kept having seams open up on me. Thought it was my knife or my technique. Then I realized I'd switched to a different brand of seam tape last week and it was way thinner. Checked the manufacturer site and found out that tape was rated for commercial glue-down only, not residential with padding. Has anyone else had a product screw up their whole workflow like that?

Heard some guys on a forum say cheap tape causes 90% of seam issues.

I read somewhere that some of the cheap stuff has too much plasticizer and it never really sticks right over time. @the_val that makes a lot of sense now that I think about the crap tape I used on my last drywall job, it bubbled up after a few months.
