Had to pick between two carpet padding types for a tricky basement job in Denver

I was installing carpet in a basement that had a slight moisture issue, and I had to choose between a standard rebond pad and a synthetic rubber one with a built-in vapor barrier. I went with the synthetic rubber pad because it felt safer for the concrete floor, and so far after three months there's no musty smell or buckling. Has anyone else had luck with that kind of pad in a damp space, or do you stick with something different?

Man that is a solid choice for a basement with any kind of moisture. I've seen way too many jobs where people just throw down rebond on a concrete slab and then wonder why it smells like a wet dog six months later. Smart move going with the synthetic rubber and the vapor barrier combo, that stuff really holds up in tricky spots. Three months without any mustiness is a GOOD sign, so you probably dodged a bullet there. I bet that Denver altitude and dry air helps some too, but you still made the right call on that pad.

Yeah @piper_green, that makes sense. I used to think rebond was fine anywhere.
