Tried a Japanese pull saw on my last trim job and wow

I grabbed a $35 Gyokucho pull saw from Home Depot last week after getting tired of fighting with my western backsaw. The kerf is so much thinner and the control is way better for crown molding. Has anyone else switched to a pull saw for finish work and found it worth the change?

@dylan_patel beat me to that exact same realization. Grabbed a Ryoba from the same shelf at Home Depot and nearly chucked my old backsaw in the trash. The cut quality is insane. No tearout, no sanding needed. Feels like cheating. But you know what really gets me? How quiet it is. That high pitched screech of a western saw is gone. Just a smooth, clean sound.

I had the exact same mindset before i tried one. For years i thought pull saws were just for fine woodworking and not for rough stuff like trim. Then i got a 265mm Dozuki from a Japanese tool shop for like $40 and used it on some baseboard. The cut quality was so clean i didnt need to sand anything. It changed my whole view on hand saws for finish work. Now i reach for it every time for small trim jobs and i wish i had tried one sooner.
