My boss in Denver said to say yes to every project for 2 years. It cost me 40 hours a week.
Back in 2019 my manager at a small shop in Denver pulled me aside and said the fastest way up was to say yes to everything for 2 years. So I did, and by month 8 I was running 11 open tasks, staying until 9pm most nights, and still getting a "meets expectations" on my review. He left for a bigger company around month 10 and nobody above me even knew my name. I finally counted it up last week and I had done 60 extra hours a month for zero pay bump. Curious if anyone else got the say yes advice and what it did to their workload.

Did your old manager ever actually admit the advice was trash, or did he just bail before you could confront him? And when you finally counted those 60 hours, did you ever push back on getting comped or was the place too small to even bother?
