I stopped listing 'team player' on my resume and started getting callbacks in Denver
I sent out 47 applications in 3 months with the usual buzzwords, and got 2 replies. Then a recruiter friend in Denver told me to delete every soft skill and replace it with one number per bullet. I rewrote 6 lines to say things like 'cut ticket backlog from 80 to 12' and got 3 interviews that same week. Turns out hiring managers skim for results, not adjectives, and 'team player' tells them nothing about what I actually did. Has anyone else cut soft skills off their resume completely, or do you keep one or two around?
Not sure this is the big rule change people make it out to be. "Team player" was always filler, nobody ever got hired off that line alone. Sounds like your friend gave you solid advice and you wrote better bullets, that's the real fix. The numbers thing works because it shows what you did, not because soft skills are poison. Plenty of jobs still want someone who can work with a crew, they just don't need you to say it in a bullet. I'd keep the numbers but if a posting flat out asks for teamwork, work it into one line somewhere. Acting like soft skills are dead is just the pendulum swinging the other way.
