Why does nobody talk about the 6 month mark for ethanol gas in a stored mower

Pulled the cover off my generator after 6 months in the garage in Tucson and the carb was already full of green gunk, so now I drain everything and run it dry before parking it for the off season, has anyone had luck with a stabilizer actually making it a full year?

Check your gas cap gasket, ethanol eats those too.
