Actually had a great night with a $30 tent I bought on a whim
Everyone online hates those budget tents but mine held up through a thunderstorm near Lake Tahoe last month without a single drip. Has anyone else had a surprisingly good run with gear reviewers trash talk?

Man, I gotta hard disagree with you there. I bought one of those cheapos once and the zipper gave out by the third trip, plus the fabric felt like it was gonna rip if I looked at it wrong. You got lucky with that storm, but most of us end up sleeping in a puddle and regretting every dollar we saved. That $30 tent is a gamble, not a win, and I'd rather pay double for gear that won't fail me at 2 AM.
