TIL the tiny screws in a Canon AE-1 are JIS, not Phillips, and that's why I stripped three of them
I was pulling the top plate off a beat up AE-1 I grabbed at a flea market in Toledo last month and every screwdriver I owned just chewed up the heads. Turns out Japanese cameras from that era use JIS screws, and a normal Phillips driver is the wrong shape for them, which is a known thing I somehow never heard in 4 years of tinkering. Anyone got a JIS driver set they actually like, or am I grinding down a Phillips tip like some kind of animal?
Grinding down a Phillips tip works fine, been doing it for years on old Hondas and never had an issue. Honestly the whole JIS thing is overblown, half the screws you'll strip anyway just from age and rust.
