Cleaned up my repair station and found a missing screwdriver

Now everything has a place and I'm not wasting time searching.

My buddy Mark (who fixes guitars) lost his good tape measure for like three weeks. Turns out it was sitting right on his workbench the whole time, but buried under a stack of sandpaper and some loose tuners. He went out that same day and got a wall rack for all his measuring stuff, and now he says it actually speeds up his work flow.

You know, when Dylan said the wall rack sped up Mark's work flow, it made me consider the brain power you waste when things are messy. It's like your mind is always keeping a list of where stuff might be, which tires you out before you even start working. Like with my own desk, if papers are everywhere, I spend more energy feeling annoyed than actually getting things done. Putting everything in one spot, like Mark did, sort of quiets that mental chatter so you can just do the job. It turns out that finding your tools faster is just one part of why getting organized feels so good.

Last weekend I spent two hours looking for my 10mm socket before I gave up and just bought another one. Of course I found the original one the next day, buried under some rags. That was the final straw for me. I went and got a bunch of those cheap plastic organizers from the hardware store. Now all my wrenches and sockets are in one drawer, sorted by size. It sounds dumb but it changed my whole mood when I go out to the garage.
