Two days to fix a 10 minute problem, my own grounding mistake
Ran a new drop at a house in Beaverton last week. Kept getting intermittent signal loss on the modem, like every 20 minutes it would drop for a second or two. Checked the fittings, checked the splitter, checked the tap. Everything looked fine. Replaced the barrel connector twice. Meter said the line was solid. Finally on day two I realized the ground block I put in was touching this metal conduit in the crawl space and it was causing a ground loop. Moved it half an inch and problem gone. Ten minute fix after 14 hours of chasing my tail. Has anyone else had a ground loop show up in weird ways like that? How do you check for it faster without pulling your hair out?
