Remember when we had to tone every single drop by hand?
I started installing cable in 2003, back when we carried around those old tone generators and probes that weighed a ton. Every job, no matter how simple, meant crawling through attics and basements to physically trace lines with a wand. Now I just clip on a fancy digital toner and it finds the line in seconds from the pedestal. The change really hit me around 2010 when my company switched to the new Fluke models with the signal strength display. I still catch myself reaching for that old probe sometimes, but I can't argue with saving 20 minutes per job. Anybody else miss the simplicity of the old gear, or am I just getting old?

Man I feel this hard. The old tone generators were a pain but there was something satisfying about hearing that tone get louder as you got closer. Now it's all digital readouts and I swear sometimes the new stuff glitches out on me. I kept my old probe as a backup for years before it finally gave up. Don't miss lugging that heavy gear through attics though, my back doesn't miss it either.
