Turns out my power strip was working against me the whole time

I picked up a cheap watt meter at Harbor Freight last month and checked my desk setup, and the strip with 8 things plugged in was drawing 14 watts just sitting there with everything off. So half my "hidden" cable box was basically a little heater under my desk this whole time. Anyone know if the smart strips with the master outlet thing actually save anything, or am I just chasing another gadget?

So you basically bought a watt meter and found out your power strip has a side hustle as a space heater. Love that for you. The master outlet strips do help, but only if the stuff on the slave outlets actually goes fully off, otherwise you're just paying $25 to feel better about it.
