A client's comment about drawer slides changed how I quote jobs
Last Tuesday, a client in Portland asked me why I didn't just use the cheap 20 dollar slides from the big box store. I told her I've seen those wear out in two years on heavy drawers, and she said she didn't care as long as it saved her 300 bucks. I did the math on my labor and realized I was losing money on rework anyway. Now I write slide grade into the contract line item so nobody gets surprised. Has anyone else had clients push back on hardware quality like that?
Those $20 slides are a great deal, right up until you're on your knees replacing them at 6 AM on a Saturday." Sounds like she saved $300 and YOU learned the real cost, so I'd say that client did you a FAVOR.
