Why does nobody warn you that a 45 cent rubber washer is the whole reason your toilet leaks
Spent Saturday afternoon with a bucket and towel under the tank because water kept trickling down the bowl, and I was ready to price out a whole new toilet. Turns out the flapper seal was fine, but the fill valve gasket had dried out and shrunk, and one little washer at the base was letting water seep past. A plumber on YouTube said those washers cost about 45 cents each, but a service call to swap one runs $150 to $250 in my area, which is just wild to me. I paid $2 for a pack of 5 at the hardware store down the street and the leak stopped in ten minutes. Now I want to know, how many of you have paid for a plumber over a part that costs less than a candy bar?
