Pro tip: a hotel front desk in Boise talked me out of buying a bigger router
I was setting up wifi for a 12-room inn there and the guy at the desk said his guests complain more about dead spots than slow speed, so I spent $180 on two mesh nodes instead of a $400 router and coverage went from spotty to solid. Anyone else find that placement beats power for small business wifi?
Man, I used to be the guy who bought the biggest router on the shelf and called it done. Figured more power meant better wifi, period. Then I watched a buddy set up a cheap two node system in a house twice the size of mine and it ran circles around my setup. That was the day I stopped trusting the box specs and started caring about where the thing actually sits. Turns out signal strength is only half the story and placement does the other half.
