Switched to a tiny index card daily log, now my whole notebook is a different beast

The 3x5 size sounds great for quick notes, but watch out for those days when you need to sketch a diagram or map, you'll run out of room fast. Index cards are more about forcing brevity than actually organizing anything, which is fine until it isn't.

That "forcing brevity" thing hit hard when my buddy tried it before a hiking trip, he had to cram a whole trail map onto the back of a card and ended up taking a wrong turn. Now he just keeps a folded paper map in his pocket instead.
