I bought a $25 stencil set for my weekly spreads and it just collects dust now

I thought having perfect little boxes and banners would make my journal look neat, but it actually made setting up each week feel like a chore instead of something helpful. After three weeks I went back to my simple ruler and pen because it was faster and felt more like mine. Has anyone else bought a fancy tool that just ended up slowing them down?

What was it about the stencil that felt like a chore, was it the cleaning it or just the time to line everything up? I get that, sometimes the extra step to make it look perfect kills the fun. I had a fancy pen that needed special paper and it just made me not want to write anything down.

Exactly! The stencil thing got me too. I bought one of those fancy multi-shape stencils for my planner and thought it would make everything look professional. But lining it up perfect every single time just wrecked the flow. I spent more time measuring and erasing mistakes than actually writing down my thoughts or tasks. It turned this creative thing into some kind of engineering project. And that pen issue you mentioned hits close to home. I had a nice fountain pen that smeared unless I used super specific paper. So I'm sitting there worried about what notebook I'm writing in instead of just writing. It defeats the whole purpose. Sometimes the tools we buy to make things better just end up making us not want to do the thing at all.

Ever try just using the stencil for one special spot each week?
