The "overkill is better" crowd finally got to me, and I'm glad they did

I spent two years running a 650W PSU in my build because the calculators all said it was enough. Then a buddy from the Lansing meetup pointed out my GPU was spiking to 580W during Warzone drops and my whole system was riding the edge. He convinced me to swap to an 850W unit, not for more power, but for stable voltage delivery. Anyone else find that their so-called "headroom" is really just undervolting in disguise?

The calculators are lying to you, plain and simple. They figure out average draw, not the crazy spikes that happen in real games. My rig would randomly shut down for months before I figured out the PSU was the problem. Went up a size and suddenly everything is smooth. Headroom is just another word for not having to worry about your PC dying mid-match.

Man, I feel this in my bones, I once spent a week blaming my graphics card when my old PSU was the real flake. @susan_wells is spot on, I learned the hard way that "enough" is just the starting point for trouble.
