The $60 vet bill that changed how I shop for pet food

Last month my cat got sick from a cheap brand I grabbed on sale, cost me $60 at the vet in Austin. I could either keep buying the bargain bags and risk another visit, or switch to a pricier brand that's $12 more per month. I went with the pricier one and honestly I'm torn now. Is the extra expense actually worth it, or did I just get lucky with one bad batch? Has anyone else had a pet food gamble backfire or was I just overthinking it?
