Found out my renter's insurance covers my fridge contents, shocked at the math

I was reading my policy renewal last week and saw a line about food spoilage coverage... turns out my landlord's policy doesn't cover my freezer, but mine pays up to $500 if the power goes out. I did the quick tally on what's actually in there, probably $300 in meat and leftovers, so it's not huge, but still nice to know. What's the point of paying $12 a month for that if you never use it... has anyone actually filed a claim for spoiled food, or is it just a marketing thing?
