Cash envelope system gets too much hype at the grocery store

Watched a lady at Kroger last Tuesday count out $63 in fives and ones for a $58 order, holding up the line. I tried it for a month and the ATM fees and lost change ate any savings, so why do we act like this is the gold standard?

Watched a guy at Home Depot pay for a $4 pack of screws with a $100 bill and the register couldn't make change, so the cashier had to call a manager over, and it took ten minutes. That's the real grocery store money drama, not some envelope.
