Tried booking a flight to Lisbon for a Tuesday and it was actually $50 more than the Thursday departure.

I always heard midweek flights were cheaper, but when I checked for my trip next month, flying out on Thursday saved me cash compared to the usual Tuesday advice, so what other common travel rules have you guys found aren't always true?

Seriously, the whole "book two months in advance" thing is a trap now. I checked fares for a trip last week and the price actually dropped three weeks out. Airlines change their algorithms constantly, so that old rule is dead.

Yeah, @uma_reed26 is right about that. The "always book direct" rule is also pretty shaky now.
