The $30 refundable ticket trap that cost me $170
Last month I booked a flight to Austin for a wedding and paid $30 more for the fully refundable fare because my cousin has a habit of changing plans at the last second. Sure enough, she pushed the date back two weeks, so I called the airline to cancel and get my money back. They said the refundable status only applied to the base fare, not the taxes and fees, which apparently are non-refundable at that tier. I ended up getting back maybe $40 of the $210 total, so I basically paid $30 extra just to lose $170 anyway. The fine print on the confirmation page had it buried in paragraph four, and nobody mentions it when you check out. Has anyone else hit this fake refundable trap, or did I just pick the worst airline to test it on?

That "paragraph four" got me too, but I started screenshotting the policy and calling before I buy now.
