I skipped travel insurance on a trip to Dublin in 2023 and ate the cost of a messed up flight, which was dumb. So for Lisbon in March I paid the $18 for the cheap policy, mostly expecting it to be a scam. Then I got a stomach bug on day 2, went to a clinic, and the bill came to $600. I filed the claim with just the receipt and a note from the doctor, and the money hit my account in 9 days. The cheap one worked fine, so why do people keep pushing the $80 policies?
