A hostel owner in Lisbon told me my day bag was why I kept blowing my food budget
Last spring I was burning through about 40 euros a day in Lisbon and could not figure out why, until the guy running my hostel pointed at my backpack and said I was carrying my whole day with me, so I kept buying water, snacks, and random stuff just to feel ready. He told me to leave the bag at the hostel and take only a small pouch with a card and one bottle. I tried it for the rest of the trip and my daily spend dropped to around 22 euros, mostly since I stopped grabbing things I did not need. Anyone else had a stranger point out something this dumb about how you travel?
