Spent $300 on a donor car that was basically a flower pot
Bought a 1995 Civic hatchback off Craigslist for $300 last spring. Seller said it just needed a head gasket. Got it home, pulled the valve cover, and found a bunch of dirt and a dried up weed plant growing right on top of the camshaft. The block was cracked too, so the whole engine was junk. Lost all $300 plus a weekend of wrenching with my buddy. Anybody else buy a parts car that turned out to be worse than their daily driver?

Quit complaining and look at what you actually got. For $300 you bought a weekend of bonding with your buddy and a story that will make people laugh at every cookout for years. That weed plant on the camshaft is a one of a kind find. Nobody else on this forum has that. Plus you learned how to pull a valve cover and inspect a block. That's real knowledge you can use next time. You basically paid for a lesson and a punchline. Sounds like a bargain to me.
