Rant: That $80 'brand new' starter motor from Amazon died in 3 weeks
I swapped a junkyard starter into my 92 Civic for 40 bucks and it lasted two years, then got cheap and bought an 80 dollar reman online. It started fine for about 20 days, then one morning it just clicked and smoked a little, total junk. Anyone else had luck with those cheap Amazon parts or should I just stick with the pull-a-part stuff from here in Phoenix?

Honestly, my buddy Dave had the exact same thing happen with a cheap reman alternator from Amazon on his 95 Accord. That thing lasted a month, then it started screaming like a jet engine and killed his battery. He pulled a used one from a junkyard in Mesa for 25 bucks and it's been going strong for over a year now. Ngl, those Amazon sellers are often just painting over old junk and hoping you don't notice. The Phoenix pull-a-part yards are gold in this heat, everything dries out and lasts longer anyway. I'd take a crusty OEM unit over that shiny mystery box any day.

You know, I used to be all about buying new and shiny, figured used parts were just someone else's problem waiting to happen. But hearing about Dave's experience, yeah, that totally flips it for me. Why pay triple for something that might crap out in a month when a junkyard gem could outlast the car itself?
