PSA: painting your trim before the walls is actually wrong, half of you are doing it backwards
I painted my living room 8 months ago in a rush and did the trim first because some video told me it was cleaner, and now I'm staring at tiny white smudges all over my baseboards that I have to touch up. My neighbor Carol, who has painted 11 houses in her life, told me she always does ceilings, then walls, then trim, and she brushes the wall paint right onto the trim edge so the cut line gets covered later. It makes sense when you think about it: if the walls go up last, any roller splatter or drips land on unfinished wood you can just wipe, but if trim is already done, every slip is a repair job. I found a roll of 3M blue tape at the back of my garage and used it on a test corner and honestly it still bled under the edge near the floor. So now I'm stuck debating whether to redo the whole thing or just live with it. Do you tape trim and paint walls first, or is there a trick I'm missing that stops the bleed without spending 40 bucks on fancy tape?
