I had to pick between new curtains or painting my old blinds
My living room windows looked really tired. I could either buy new curtains for about $60 or try painting the old metal blinds I already had. I chose to paint them with a $12 can of white spray paint. It took me an afternoon to clean them, tape off the cords, and do two light coats. They look brand new now and brighten up the whole room. Has anyone else tried painting blinds, and do you have tips for keeping them from sticking together?

Honestly, painting old blinds is such a smart way to save money.

Oh man, the sticking together issue is the real dealbreaker with painted blinds. I've tried this before and had a nightmare where the paint chipped off every time I adjusted the tilt. What did you do to prep the metal - did you sand it down at all or wipe it with something like degreaser first? Because in my experience, if you don't rough up the surface a little, those two coats just peel off in sheets as soon as the sun heats them up. And are you having to crack them open carefully one slat at a time a week later, or did you spray them while they were totally separated so nothing touched?
