Found out my $40 paint sprayer costs more per room than a $3 roller

I was tracking my costs for repainting the hallway last weekend and did the math on the paint I was losing to overspray and cleaning solvent. Turns out that cheap Wagner sprayer eats about 15% more paint plus a $4 can of cleaner every single time. Meanwhile my grandma's old roller method with a $3 tray liner uses almost every drop and takes maybe 20 extra minutes. Has anyone else actually crunched the numbers on sprayers vs rollers for small rooms, or am I the only one who got fooled by the 'pro' look?

Admit I was all in on sprayers for years, thought they were the only way to get that clean finish. But then I did the same math on my bathroom and almost choked when I saw how much paint vanished into the air and the cleaner. It's not just the overspray either, you gotta factor in the time to mask everything off and clean the gun, which honestly eats way more than 20 minutes for me. I mean, the roller is slower and you gotta be careful with streaks, but for a small room it's way less wasteful and easier to control. Kinda embarrassing to think I was a sprayer snob for so long, now I only bust mine out for big stuff like fences or cabinets.
