A friend's blunt comment about my crooked shelves saved me $80

Last week my buddy glanced at my living room and said, "Those shelves look like they're having a bad day." I was about to buy a new level and fancy brackets, but he showed me how to fix the sag with a $2 pack of shims from the hardware store. We pushed them under the brackets and adjusted the anchors, and now they sit perfectly straight. It took 20 minutes total and I didn't replace a single thing. Has anyone else gotten a cheap fix from a friend's offhand remark?

Wait till those screws strip out or the wood warps and see how cheap that fix really was.
