My uncle's frozen veggie trick cut my grocery bill by a third

My uncle who worked at a food bank told me to buy frozen veggies instead of fresh for soups and stews, and honestly I thought he was just being cheap. But after 6 weeks of doing it, I'm spending about $22 less per trip to the Kroger in Columbus, and nothing tastes worse. Frozen spinach and peas actually hold up better in a slow cooker than the fresh stuff which turns to mush. Has anyone else switched to frozen for certain dishes and noticed a real difference in their weekly budget?
