I see so many people throwing away the liquid from canned beans... that's basically free soup base you're pouring down the drain.

Calling it "free soup base" is smart, but that liquid is pure sodium. My doctor told me to always rinse canned beans because the salt content is crazy high. You're basically pouring out a bunch of salt water, which is a good thing.

I used to save that bean liquid for cooking too. Then I read the nutrition label and saw how much sodium was in there. @rowan666 has a point about it basically being salt water. My own blood pressure is a bit high, so pouring it out is the better move for me now. The liquid just isn't worth the health trade-off. Rinsing the beans cuts way down on the salt.
