Hot take: I thought dried beans were a scam to sell more beans, then I did the math on a 99 cent bag
When a coworker in Dayton kept going on about how a 99 cent bag of dried pintos made more food than four cans, I figured it was just penny pinching talk. So I soaked a bag overnight, simmered it with onion and a ham hock, and ended up with nine cups of beans plus a quart of broth I froze for later. What else am I writing off as too much work when it actually saves me $12 a pot?
