Watched my uncle lay a course of brick on a wall in Tulsa last week and realized I've been going way too fast for years

He took 3 minutes to set each brick, checking level and plumb like a dentist inspecting teeth, and his wall looked perfect while mine always have that slight wobble I have to hide with mortar. Anybody else have that one old-timer who made you see the value in slowing way down?

Slow and steady wins the race. That uncle sounds like my grandpa building fence posts.

That thing about "hiding the wobble with mortar" hit home because I used to think speed was the sign of a pro until my old man made me redo a 10 foot section of retaining wall. He'd take five minutes on one block but that wall is still standing straight after three Ohio winters and mine would've buckled by now. Slow really is smooth and smooth is fast when you factor in not having to tear it all apart later lol.
